Harold's story is emotionally heavy anchored to his heart strings, sufferings from a hostile crisis, torments tensely opposed life, instabilities that lead to change. This is what he gives not in sequence, but remembered through paralyzed times, divorce, family losses, drug addiction, alcoholism incarceration, suspensions and expulsions and failed efforts. His has been a life well experienced in every aspect, that was once regretted, that is now respected and still remembered. This debut collection of poetry takes you into his life with the intensity of a shotgun! A must read! "Sorrow my advantage, misery my cheer, worry my aid, afflictions I relieve in faith, I grieve not my past, I embrace the miracle that I survived my own unhappiness." - Harold Clapsaddle

"In Telling Cause"
By Harold Clapsaddle

'Tis not strange to me, this poet's everlasting love to sell,
for your inquiry of histology done near and old as I do tell
let this poet speak your heart, as war reports, in tears I cry,
dissections of old romances, figments of tale, none of divers lie.

Whence comes poetic fables, of all which you may well guess
Holy war is of my own ideal, as you and I daily survive to confess
such things fancy dressed once worn by and as this poet writes
though through confusion humankind may guess at the indites.

All I have left to poetic way, as disciplines sight, is my engrain,
feigning accounts, anecdotes some, may be called dire taled vain.
Cliff-hung my love, "On-High" sought is brought "In Telling Cause"
my trouble, your doubts, that I take advantage for some applause.

My heart-fears, many are as cragged mountains known well
high gravities of pain, cold tears, warm joys in poems I dispel.
From learned, I well know, will come many divers of sorts
some foreign, some domestic, yet, please anatomize reports.

For acquainted histories, please lend an ear to what I relate,
fate touched submits brought, as filth betook my faithful state.
From my ignorance all poems applied by, are of no given sage
what affronts my soul, I counterpoise as penned poetical page.

Under no severity will I charm whereof fable-maker be
for lies are as muck as doth a swine mired muddy agree
this owned, as excrement would I be trampled Lord Divine
no submits do I wallow in filth, like doth enslaved of swine.

Let no human flesh, then portray mine as a fable-maker,
nor subside my name by credit given thereof a partaker.
Cover mine in heavenly curtain lit, as I cry of battle-rays
verily of truths do remember, I wave windy of dying days.

My ploy! For you to be God's consort with eternal love
to enjoy all this poor poet clothed "In Telling Cause" of.
